Galapagos Islands – Darwin’s Wonders 2025

Photography Tour

If you’re a nature photographer, a trip to the Galapagos Islands is likely on your “bucket list”—and for good reason! On this wildlife photography tour, you will experience what it is like to photograph and walk among wildlife that is completely accepting of your presence allowing you to work situations, be creative and make wild connections at the same time. Having been here many times, we have perfected our itinerary, going to wildlife rich islands and traveling in comfort aboard our own private yacht.

Trip Details

Are you ready for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, photographing extraordinary wildlife that shows no fear towards humans?  The Galapagos islands are the place for you. It is here that you can relax into the moment, work your subjects and make amazing images. From wildlife portraits to wide angle images of animals in the landscape and exciting action shots of animal behaviors, the Galapagos islands are both subject rich and diverse.

Itinerary designed around the light: What makes our trip different from other trips is how we work the light and the wildlife activity. We maximize our early morning and late afternoon landings to photograph wildlife both when the light is best and wildlife is most active. In the mid-day when animal activity subsides and the lighting is harsher, we’ll retreat to the boat to relax and recharge or go snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters. Imagine snorkeling with playful sea lions, watching vibrant schools of fish swim past and marveling at manta rays and sea turtles gliding gracefully beneath you. As night falls, our boat will smoothly cruise to our next destination, preparing you for another day of adventure.

Focus on Wildlife Rich Islands: Our trip takes you to six islands that are rich in wildlife and skips the islands that are primarily lava. Stroll along the shore where sea lions bask on the beach and marine iguanas soak up the sun. Make fun-filled images of Blue-footed boobies showing off their blue feet. Get down low with a Sally-lightfoot crab. Capture the ancient stare of a Galapagos tortoise. Notice the differences across the Darwin finches.  This place is just so unique you will never be at a loss for amazing subjects and situations.

Private Yacht serves as our home base: To ensure our schedule fits our photography needs perfectly, we’ve secured a private yacht exclusively for our group. We will be cruising aboard the Anahi, a luxurious 90-foot diesel-powered catamaran with spacious cabins, each having large windows for wonderful ocean views, individually controlled air conditioning and a private bath with full shower. You can relax and feel safe knowing that there are 9 highly professional and experienced crew members taking care of your every need. We will have an expert chef and staff who prepare delicious meals using fresh, local ingredients and a dedicated naturalist guide who will share a plethora of natural history with you.  Having two hulls, the Anahi gives us a nice stable cruising experience.

Two photography instructors

Our tour is designed for photographers of all skill levels. You’ll have two instructors, Steve and Nicole, by your side throughout, to advise as you capture images of a lifetime.

Nature Lover’s Trip: While we cannot offer a discount on this trip due to our need to keep the group size small, this is a terrific trip for the non-photographer who loves spending time with wildlife. We actually have a number of non-photographers who love nature join our trips because we are not only fun to travel with but also spend time with wildlife, watching and enjoying the behaviors and activity.

Fitness Level: Easy. While you will need to be able to board and exit the zodiac (Panga) via both wet and dry landings, once on land the trails are typically easy to walk on. There may be some lava rocks to walk on so you need to watch your step. Our forays onto the islands will last a few hours each time but you don’t need to go far to find wildlife. Wet landings simply mean we are landing on the beach and you will be in a few inches of water.

Detailed ITINERARY

Day 1

December 3, 2025

Arrival in Quito

Arrive in Quito, Transfer to our hotel, Patio Andaluz, a four star luxury hotel. We are staying here for the first two nights of our trip. This schedule provides us with an important buffer day to solve any unforeseen travel problems, i.e. missed connections, lost luggage etc. This also gives you time to explore Quito, one of the trendiest, most interesting and culturally vibrant cities in South America. There is also “old town”, which is packed with historical architecture, gold embellished churches, culture, food, and shopping.

Day 2

December 4, 2025

Free day to explore the city

Explore Quito on your own or relax for the day and get ready for the adventure ahead! We will meet tonight for our Welcome Dinner.

Day 3

December 5, 2025

Enter the Galapagos Islands!

Short in-country flight to Baltra Island where we will board our boat, the Ahani, get settled in and get underway! Our first adventure into the Galapagos islands will be Santa Cruz Island, Bachas Beach. Here, we will have our first encounters with species such as flamingos, Sally Lightfoot crabs, and migratory and aquatic birds. This is also one of the main nesting sites for sea turtles on Santa Cruz island.

Day 4

December 6, 2025

Genovesa, Darwin Bay and El Barranco

Today will be spent exploring Genovesa island, also known as Bird Island or Tower Island. We will visit Darwin Bay in the morning where we expect to see swallow-tailed and lava gulls, yellow-crowned night herons, lava herons, yellow warblers and mockingbirds. Frigate birds and red-footed boobies breed in abundance here as well. Our afternoon will be spent exploring El Barranco. This part of the island is populated by red-footed boobies and frigate birds that nest in trees and Nazca boobies that nest on the ground. Small marine iguanas are also found here. Along the trail we may see lava cactus and a large lava field where thousands of storm petrels swirl through the sky. This is also the best place to see the endemic short-eared owl since it preys on the petrels.

Day 5

December 7, 2025

South Plazas and Santa Fe

This morning we will visit South Plazas Island. Here we will find sea lion colonies, land and hybrid iguanas and countless birds soaring by the cliffs. This is one of the smallest islands yet it is home to the largest populations of land iguanas that can be visited. In the afternoon, we will enjoy Santa Fe Island. Red-billed tropicbirds, shear water petrels and swallow-tailed gulls are some of the birds nesting along the cliffs. We may even see mockingbirds, finches and the Galapagos Hawk. Land iguanas and lava lizards are also found here.

Day 6

December 8, 2025

San Cristobal, Punta Pitt and Kicker Rock

As we get up in the morning, we will be at San Cristobal Island. Our morning will be spent at Punta Pitt, located on the easternmost side of the island. This is the nesting site for numerous sea birds and is one of a few places where you can see three species of boobies (red-footed, blue-footed and nazca) as well as two species of frigatebirds. For the afternoon, we will head over to Leon Dormindo and Lobos Island, also known as Kicker Rock. This is one of the best places for snorkeling. We may spot sea turtles, marine iguanas and various tropical fish.

Day 7

December 9, 2025

Galapagos Tortoise Breeding Center and Tijeretas Hill

This morning, we will visit the Galapagos Tortoise Breeding Center of Cerro Colorado. Here we can observe giant tortoises living in a semi-natural habitat and learn about their origins, evolution and threats by introduced animals. In the afternoon, we will head to the Tijeretas Hill/Interpretation Center. The center provides a nice introduction to the history and ecology of the island. It is also the starting point for a great walk to a beach where we may find frigatebirds roosting, iguanas catching some rays, turtles swimming just off shore, and sea lions resting along the shore (or in our path).

Day 8

December 10, 2025

Espanola, Punta Suarez and Gardner Bay

Today will be spent on Espanola Island. We will start our day visiting Punta Suarez, one of the most memorable walks in all of the Galapagos. This is our chance to see the waved Albatross, an extremely rare endemic species that only makes its home on Espanola. Here we will also see the famed red and green “Christmas” Iguanas, also only found on this island. Large colonies of Blue-footed boobys, Nazca boobys, mockingbirds, lava lizards and sea lions are also found here. If we are lucky, this is also where we may see the Galapagos Hawk. Our afternoon will be spent at Gardner Bay. This is a fantastic place to enjoy and photograph sea lions along a long white sand beach. You can also go for a swim here – maybe a sea lion will join you!

Day 9

December 11, 2025

Floreana, Punta Cormoran, Devils Crown and Post Office Bay

Today we will explore Floreana, starting with a morning at Punta Cormoran which hosts a large flamingo lagoon. Here we may also see common stilts and white-cheeked pintails. We will also visit the Devils Crown, one of the best snorkeling locations in the Galapagos. This location is a volcanic crater that was eroded by waves leaving the sides poking out of the water.
