Clingman’s Dome, Cades Cove, The Morton Overlook, these are just some of the iconic locations we will visit on this spring workshop to Great Smoky Mountain National Park. This park offers something for everyone: great landscapes, charming historic buildings, bear, deer, coyote, turkey, songbirds. But the real highlight of this workshop will be the spectacular wildflowers. We timed this trip to coincide with peak spring wildflower season in the Smokies.

Description

One of the things we really Love about this workshop is that participants all stay in a cabin together which allows for total immersion in photography throughout our time together. In fact, many lasting friendships are made each year during our Smokies workshop

The park is known to many as the “wildflower park” for a reason. At this time of year the forest floor is carpeted with a riot of wildflowers. In addition to the forest floor the dogwood and rosebud should also be at peak. Additionally all of the streams and waterfalls running at a very high volume will make for even more photographic opportunities.

Instruction

This workshop is being specifically designed to maximize our time in the field photographing, and learning in a hands on real world fashion. We will be identifying and solving photographic problems in the field as they come up. The group size is purposely being kept small enough so that everyone will be able to get questions answered and have time for one on one instruction. Any down time that we are not in the field actively shooting (evenings etc.) will be spent critiquing the days shoot and learning from each other. We will also spend time working in Lightroom learning how to optimize our images to make them look their best.

Each participant will be encouraged to bring a portfolio of 25 images to share with the group (if you are comfortable doing that). Steve will also do private portfolio reviews during or after the workshop for any participants that would like feedback on their work. We will do this in addition to the feedback that we provide daily as we are shooting in the field.
