Photo of the Week: Eye Contact in Wildlife Portraits

This image was created in Bosque Del Apache National Park in New Mexico. I was standing on one of the wildlife viewing platforms when this fellow showed up.

I would love to tell you it was only due to my amazing reflexes and skill with the camera that I was able to capture this image, as this bird whizzed by at 37 miles per hour. But the truth is, he was virtually hovering in front of me into a very stiff headwind, actually making this shot fairly simple.

But hey, if you’re not out there you won’t get lucky, right? The eye contact was a bonus as well.

Good Luck and Good Light!
